Selected from the largest Obama poster collection known to exist, the 185 full-color images visually emphasize Obama’s inspirational messages of change, hope and inclusion, solidifying a campaign unlike anything ever seen in U.S. history and elevating the man behind the message to the status of cultural icon. The unparalleled collection was scanned at the highest resolution largely from original, signed prints available for viewing at “Officially Unofficial -- Inspired Art for Obama,” a traveling exhibit that will soon be touring the country.

With very few exceptions, each of the visually stunning campaign posters in Hope, created by a diverse collection of artists, have been seen only by a limited number of viewers in the primary states, with others having rarely been seen outside the urban core or the art gallery world. Accompanying text provides the back story of each individual artist and poster, revealing the expressive intent behind these dynamic compositions. As an added visual bonus, the reverse side of the front jacket reveals a fold-out, full-color reproduction of David Choe’s awe-inspiring “Hope” print.

This was the second time I saw Johnny In Concert, the first was when he headlined the 2nd River Walk Blues Fest in Ft. Lauderdale, 1988.

I was a little skeptical about seeing Johnny again, after years of drug and alcohol abuse. But after our interview a few weeks back, and finding out he's been sober about five years now, my faith was restored. And Mr. Winter delivered!

Johnny played a full set, including my favorites It's All Over Now, and Highway 61 Revisited, and Red House! And his band kicked ass.

Thanks Johnny and Paul for the interview, and great show!

Rest In Peace Sweet Mary

From the Peter Paul and Mary Website:

"Mary Travers passed away today. After successful recovery from leukemia through a bone marrow/stem cell transplant, Mary succumbed to the side effects of one of the chemotherapy treatments. We all loved her deeply and will miss her beyond words."

Tell Me That You'll Wait for Me...

Influenced by the likes of Josh White, the Weavers, Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, and Pete Seeger, Mary Allin Travers was born on Nov. 9, 1936 in Louisville, Kentucky. She later grew up in Greenwich Village, New York City where she was 'discovered' by manager Albert Grossman who put her together with her future partners Noel Paul Stookey and Peter Yarrow. Mary, who had a very powerful and beautiful voice (till the end) and long, straight blond hair that she became almost as famous for.

PP&M were at the forefront of the great folk revival of the early 1960's. The group had hits with such tunes as: "Puff the Magic Dragon", "If I Had a Hammer", "Lemon Tree" and "Stewball". Their versions of "Blowin' in the Wind" and "Leaving on a Jet Plane" helped make stars of budding songwriters Bob Dylan and John Denver respectively.

Known for their political activism, "Blowin' In the Wind" became civil rights anthem for the band and the world, they would march with Martin Luther King in Selma, Ala.,and perform at the 1963 civil rights March on Washington and at demonstrations protesting the Vietnam War throughout the 60's.

The group disband in the early 70's, but over the years they regrouped several times performing at such events as a 1978 anti-nuclear benefit organized by Peter Yarrow, Live Aid, Amnesty International Benefits, and the 1995 anniversary of the Kent State shootings.

Peter Paul and Mary continued to tour right up until this year. On a personal note, I've had the pleasure of seeing the trio three times. In 1986 when the group performed on their 25th Anniversary tour at the Miami Marine Stadium, performing all their hits as well as their newer material "El Salvador", and "No Easy Walk to Freedom". And then twice at The King Center in Melbourne, Florida in 1998 and 2002.

At the time of that first Melbourne concert in 1998, my wife Jen and I had just opened our folk music venue Kool Beanz. So I thought it appropriate to take Jen to see PP&M for her birthday. I called for tickets a week before the show, and to our great luck a couple had canceled their Front Row/Center seats moments before, so we had the best seats we could have dreamed of! To top it off, our good friend Fred Migliore helped arrange to get us backstage where we met the group, they signed my portrait, and I got to live a life long dream of sharing with Mary Travers.

Rest In Peace Mary.

ORLANDO GUITAR TOWN (PART 3)

Over the past two weeks there were two final events for the ORLANDO GUITAR TOWN.
First, the last public display of the guitars at Lale Eola on April 26th.....

Then Came the Gala Auction....

This past Thursday, May 7, the guitar artists, and music and art enthusiasts, attended the Orlando GuitarTown’s last gig. Ending on a high note, bidding on the 72 hand-painted Gibson Guitar sculptures, attendees helped raise more than $175,000 for local charities; the Downtown Arts District, Page 15, the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness, and the Parramore Kidz Zone.

Following the auction was a special performance by the
BLUE MAN GROUP!

WE ARE ONE: Obama Inauguration Concert

The star-studded concert that kicked off the official inaugural festivities Sunday afternoon (1/18/09) "We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration," featured a lineup of speakers and musical performers that included Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, U2, Herbie Hancock, Pete Seeger, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, YoYo Ma & Itsach Pearlman and many more.

What a great concert! I can't wait for the report from my cousin who was there!
Inaguration Day was wonderful too....I am especially proud to be an American right now!
